My recent volunteering stint at our local secondary school reinforced the importance of having a role model as you progress through your career – and choosing wisely.
As part of Vitale Care’s ethos of giving back to our local community, Daniel and I, along with 30 other local professionals, had the privilege to act as interviewers for Year 9 students – for those not in the know, that’s pupils aged 13/14.
This was the first mock interview the students had experienced. The aim was to give them the chance to speak to someone they don’t know and talk about themselves – their hobbies, interests, skills and any plans for the future.
Some students were extremely nervous about talking to someone new, so needed some gentle coaxing. But I did meet some lovely youngsters with ambition and potential.
What became clear as I thought about the young people I’d met, was the importance of role models. One of my questions was, “Who do you admire and why.” Parents and relatives topped the list. In my mind, there was a correlation between the quality of the conversation and the aspirations of those that struggled to identify someone they looked up to.
Role models act as a source of inspiration and motivation, encouraging you to dream big and strive for greatness. Witnessing their achievements and the obstacles they overcame instils a sense of belief in yourself, teaching you by example that with dedication and perseverance, you too can achieve your dreams.
Their stories remind you that success often involves embracing failure, learning from mistakes, and never giving up.
Our role models demonstrate the importance of giving back to the community and fostering a sense of responsibility. They showcase the significance of making a positive impact on others’ lives, inspiring you to be a force for good in your chosen field.
Role models are like warm rays of sunshine, guiding you on your career path with their inspiring stories, valuable insights, and unwavering support. Embrace them, learn from them, and let their influence propel you towards your dreams.
Throughout your career adventure, remember that you, too, have the potential to become a role model for others, spreading warmth and friendliness to the next generation of aspiring achievers.
