Live-in Carer Costs in Chichester

As home care providers in Chichester, clients often ask about live-in carer costs, what we include in those costs and how they can arrange this type of care. In this article, we thought we would answer some of those questions.

Live-in carer costs:

Live-in carer costs are generally less than residential care (care in a care home). Of course, it’s essential to consider the additional non-financial benefits for anybody considering live-in care for themselves or a family member. Opting for live-in care allows you to stay in your home, surrounded by familiar surroundings and happy memories. This stability brings with it a retained sense of independence.

At Vitale Care Chichester, we offer three levels of live-in care:

  • Companionship Care: This is for clients who may need a little help with personal care but, more importantly, require the companionship of someone living in their home. This level of care offers peace of mind for family members, knowing that somebody is at home with their loved ones to provide support.
  • Medium Care: This is for clients who need complete personal care and companionship.
  • High Care: We offer this type of live-in care for clients needing more help and support with personal care or specific medical needs. It is usually partnered with dedicated night care.

How does Live-in care work?

If you opt for live-in care, one of our Care Professionals will live with you in your home. They must have a bedroom in your house (they can share your bathroom) where they can sleep at night. They are not on duty at night, but you can take comfort in knowing they are there.

We always give our Live-in Care Professionals a food allowance, so apart from staples like bread, milk and sugar, you have no additional cost to cover. However, many of our clients enjoy sharing meals with their Care Professionals. They find the companionship benefits far outweigh the small additional grocery costs they must spend on a meal for two people rather than just themselves.

Although your live-in Care Professional lives and sleeps in your home, they are not on duty 24/7. A day of care is ten hours. Your Care Professional works twelve-hour shifts, with two hours off during that shift. If you want to cover your live-in carer’s two-hour break, we can arrange for another Care Professional to attend (we charge an additional hourly rate for this service).

We include the following services in your live-in care plan:

  • Personal care
  • Shopping, cooking and cleaning
  • Assistance with medication
  • Companionship
  • Assisting with appointments and taking you out and about

In short, your live-in care professional will help you with anything you cannot do for yourself.

How do I arrange this type of care?

We can arrange live-in care through our normal three-step assessment process.

  1. Give us a call to book an assessment. We are based in Sidlesham but work in and around Chichester.
  2. We’ll visit you in your home for the assessment, discuss your personal care needs, and ensure your home is suitable for a live-in carer.
  3. Your care begins. This can sometimes be within 24 hours of your phone call!

Hidden costs of not having live-in care:

Many of our Chichester-based clients and their families are unaware of how simple it is to arrange live-in care and how cost-effective it can be compared to a care home until they’ve made their first call to us.

If you are in a care home (but still own your home), you still have the cost of maintaining the house, which usually needs more maintenance if no one lives in it. If you already have hourly care, but your care needs change, and you need this more frequently and for more extended periods, live-in care is often a more cost-effective option.

Finally, it’s essential to consider the stress and emotional toll it can place on your family members if they have taken on the role of caregiver. A live-in care professional is exactly that: professional. They are also compassionate, empathetic and reliably there for you. Put simply, it’s their job. And at Vitale Care, we know our Care Professionals do a stellar one!
